Yi-gan san (traditional Japanese herbal medicine)as adjunctive therapy for treatment-resistant schizophrenia http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/19471183
Some have had success with a combination of medication with strong vitamins
,or vitamins alone if they are lucky. They may help with the symptoms of schizophrenia or the fatigue caused by necessary medication... http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/18587164
A summary of a new Systematic Review & Meta Analysis for non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs
Music Therapy may also help but should not be the only treatment.
TMS (Trancranial Magnetic Stimulation) is a less drastic alternative to electroconvulsive therapy, more research is needed but a study has shown that it is helpful.
Some schizophrenics benefit from a sugar, wheat &gluten-free diet.Reducing or eliminating sugar in one's diet will help with the mood swings & weight gain associated with psychiatric medication as well as the many other physical problems it can cause .
Research is being carried out on amino acids to help reduce symptoms (glycine, the drug called Sarcosine)
E-EPA Omega 3 supplements can be helpful
Look out for the UPS or GMP stamp on the label.
Discuss taking vitamin E & other antioxidants if you are taking anti psychotic medication.
A healthy well balanced whole grain diet with good sources of B12,niacin & folic acid, less saturated fat and plenty of fruits and vegetables will help reduce the damage homocysteine may have on the brain increasing symptoms and keep blood sugar levels more stable.Stimulants such as coffee an nicotine are best avoided.
L-Theanine can help reduce anxiety and positive symptoms (hallucinations, disorganized behaviour).
Then there's CBT (Cognitive BehaviourTherapy) and physical exercise which can help.
Conducted at the University of California–San Francisco (UCSF) alongside the San Francisco VA Medical Center (SFVAMC), a study showed that patients with schizophrenia were better able to distinguish their own thoughts from reality after completing 80 hours of intense computerized cognitive training exercises Computerized training may help schizophrenia patients monitor reality
As usual you will want to consult your doctor before starting any treatment...
